This is a good video to learn about search engine optimization in 3 minutes. Especially when you are looking for onsite optimization. They don’t really talk a lot about off site optimization. So basically, there are 2 types of search engine optimization.
The first one is: onsite optimization, where you optimize your website to search engine’s favor. This can be done by putting proper tags, placing enough keywords throughout the website (as explained in the video), creating anchor links. etc. Placing your main keyword in the title page is a great idea because google will make those letter bold.
The second one is: offsite optimization. This is an ongoing process that need to be done as long as you own a website. Basically, you need to create content to “feed” the search engines. The more content you have the more likely your pages are picked up by the search engines. The most important thing in your campaign is by having high page rank websites to link back to you. A link back to your website is seen as a “vote” from other websites. The more websites that link to you the better. But you gotta keep in mind, you only want to have good link partners. Don’t swap links with bad websites.
Basically, the search engines work like this. You can say your website is the best in the widget business but if there is no one who can support that by linking to you then google will not give you any credit. For ex, if your website is about golf, imagine what your credibility would be if Tiger Woods and Jack Nicholson “vote” for your website.
